It's easier than you may think and can start earning straight away, all that is needed are some recent photographs, these do not have to be high quality or even nude, bikini shots are fine, simple snaps as long as you can see facial detail and full body shot, why not give it a try today, have a look through some of the common novice model questions.

If you have not modelled before and are considering whether to, or you feel you do not have the look, here are a few suggestions that may help you:

I feel I have the look but consider modelling only as a means to get money.
If this statement applies to you then you may be looking at the wrong career, most successful models do it because they want to and enjoy it, that way you should have no regrets.

Most photographers (myself included) can spot that look instantly and are put off by it as it ALWAYS shows in the photos.

That’s not to say you shouldn’t earn decent money, but it should be a benefit and not the reason for modelling.

I am interested in Modelling but do not feel I have the right look.
This is the most common reason a lot of potential models do not start modelling, which is an absolute shame, the right look is often portrayed as being 100% perfect, which for one there is no such thing.

One of the most amazing things I hear is potential models feeling their bust size is too small, this is so not the case, small chested models are extremely popular and always will be, the key thing is not the size but that they are natural.

As far as my perspective goes I trust my gut instinct and seek more ‘natural’ looking girls. If you look at some of the links you will see a broad spectrum of looks and figures that may surprise you, there is very much a market for most types of looks, your best way of deciding is to ask others opinions and LISTEN to it as they will not be far off, it’s only natural that we think of ourselves less than others see us.

I have no experience and cannot get a break.
Again another common reason for Models not starting, this is so easily overcome as there are a lot of photographers that will recruit Novice Models, this can often be an asset and not a drawback - we all seek new faces and I know how to direct new models, if I see a model with little experience I actively try to recruit her, AND more importantly I do not pay her any less than an experienced model. (leading onto the next question)

What is this TFP I keep hearing mentioned?
TFP stands for Time For Prints which basically means you pose for a photographer for no charge and in return the photographer gives you photo’s for your portfolio.

Although this can be good, my opinion is a little more controversial as I feel a lot of models get ripped off this way.

I simply do not do TFP on it’s own, the most I will do is maybe tag on an hour onto a paid shoot in exchange for a web site for the model, other than that they are welcome to any of my photo’s as long as they are for their own portfolio purposes, and photographer credit remains.

That said there are a lot of decent amateur & pro photographers that do good jobs on TFP shoots, it's a great way for a model to gain experience and gain confidence, all I can advise is check first as to what they will do with the photo’s, if they are intended for commercial use then it's only fair you get paid!.

I seem to be pushed towards erotic work when I only want clothed glamour.
I firmly believe if this is the case then you should never feel forced into adult work, you either want to do it or you don’t, there is no in-between.

Most of my work is adult orientated and when asked the majority of models have simply wanted to do adult work, so they have no regrets, and enjoy the fact they do adult work.

My advice on this is be sure in yourself that you want to do it, if not there are a lot of photographers and agency’s that employ models for clothed glamour, just try different circles (see links)

I am concerned about my safety during shoots and yet some photographers don’t allow chaperones.
Unfortunately this will happen, I give utmost respect to models that I work with and have never abused that trust, although I allow chaperones I do not like them being present as the simple fact is no matter how hard they try to keep out of the way, they ARE a distraction.

The best way if you are concerned and feel you need a chaperone is to check with the photographer first, in my case I am more than happy for a chaperone to come along and check out everything is above board and the models safety is not in question, but once shooting commences I expect the chaperone to leave and return once the shoot has finished.

However you should always consider your safety first and check on the photographers background as much as you can, asking for references from other models is often best as you will get a first hand account of their character, it is best you turn down an assignment if you feel too uncomfortable.

Does all of your freelance work contain nudity?
Since I do indeed sell most of my shoots then the market dictates the styles I shoot, so usually all contain nudity, mainly erotic nudity. Though I do TFP work as well which will only contain the level that the model is comfortable with.

Why focus on erotic work?
I would be a liar if I said taking photographs of nude women was a boring chore, I do enjoy what I do because I take a lot of pride in how my pictures come out, I am a professional with the view that there simply is nothing more appealing to the eye than a nude woman.

Can I bring an Escort/Chaperone to the shoot?
This depends! I am there to takes photographs and nothing else, I used to encourage models to do so as it helps to relax them and therefore means better pictures, but all too often chaperones have been a negative distraction, and in some cases have ruined a shoot. I would wish to speak to another photographer to see how they found them.

Where do you shoot?
Most of my shoots are from my home/studio though I also shoot from rented studios all over the country when needs dictate and also models own homes if suitable.

Why from home?
A few reasons, mainly natural home environments bring out the best in models, my style is very much based on natural looking poses and relaxed looking models as opposed to ‘stiff’ looking studio shoots.
Also studios at the end of the day cost money, shooting from home means more money available for model hire, I always guarantee a minimum of 4 hours per shoot..

Who sees your work?
Tough question, I sell most of my work to web sites but often do not see myself where they end up, the internet is vast and the odds of seeing them is remote to say the least, but some can be found on my links page.

Are all your models over 18?
Absolutely yes, I insist that the model provides proof of age, even if they are 30! it is a requirement by US law that the photographer must be able to prove the age of any model. Although this does not apply to TFP work I still insist on it.

Do your models sign a release form?
Again yes, I make no pretence about where my work is published and must cover myself by law, also it serves to protect the models rights too.

Do you work with novice models?
With freelance photography it is a bonus to have a fresh face as it makes the photos easier to sell, experience is not essential and I give tuition to models prior to the shoot, E-mail me if you have further questions.

Do novice models get paid less?
I pay all models the same going rates, experience does not affect the pay scale.

I am not sure what the levels of modelling are?
» Glamour: very broad but can include swim wear, lingerie, topless, etc.
» Artistic nude: naked or partially naked and tasteful
» UK mag: Fully naked including open leg.
» US mag: as above but holding self open.
» Continental: as above but including finger or toy insertions.
» 2 Girl Soft: simulated lesbian sex with no insertions
» 2 Girl Hard: Lesbian Sex including toys and finger insertions
» Hardcore: Involving male/female intercourse and oral.

Do you pay expenses?
Yes but within reason, I once had a model wish to stay over with her escort in a hotel plus travel and food expenses, the expenses exceed the cost of the model hire for a 4 hour shoot! strangely enough I declined :o)

How will I be paid?
I always pay cash and a booking deposit in some cases.

What if I can’t make it to a shoot we have booked?
Life can be unpredictable so all I ask is you let me know in a reasonable time, we can always rearrange for a later date.

Hopefully that answers most questions but please feel free to email me if there is anything else you need to know
